Stratasys Announces the Opening of Worldwide Extreme Redesign 2017 Competition

Take Part in The Annual Stratasys 3D Printing Challenge

Following the success of previous contests, Stratasys- a world-leader in advanced direct digital manufacturing technology– kicked off the 13th Annual Extreme Redesign 3D Printing Challenge with a formal announcement calling for entrants.

With the full support of popular digital manufacturing premiere hub, GrabCAD, aspiring designers and engineers are able to build products faster by linking people as well as content and technology.

Challenging student innovators across the globe to produce either an original design or revamp an existing piece that leverages the use of Stratasys 3D printing. The competition categories include two in Engineering for both secondary and post-secondary students, as well as a category in Art, Jewellery and Architectural design for applicants of all grade levels.

On the condition that all designs should prove completely mechanically sound, realistic and achievable, the judgement itself is based on not only mechanical functionality but also design creativity, product usefulness, aesthetics and a compelling description reasoning the entrants design and purpose in detail.

Both individual and design team applicants are able to sign up for a free GrabCAD community account in order to submit STL file entries on to the GrabCAD challenge platform. Alongside the STL design file applicants are required to provide a thorough description detailing the value and benefit of the design with a deadline of 9th March 2017.

Since its beginning, thirteen years ago, Stratasys has awarded more than £110,000 in scholarships worldwide. This year first place winners in every category can expect take home around £2,000 in scholarship money. Those following in second place will receive roughly £780 in scholarships and the top 10 entries per category will earn not only a Stratasys apparel item equating up to £40, but also their very own 3D printed model of their design. All individual and design team entrants additionally will be given an official Extreme Redesign T-Shirt.

GradCAD features as an integral part of this years competition. Since 2010, the hub offers designers, engineers, students, and manufacturing professionals a premium platform where they are able to share CAD files and design tips with the vast online community whilst having the option of participating in design challenges, or downloading free CAD models saving time on starting designs from scratch.

During this time period since the hubs creation, GrabCAD has hosted hundreds of engineering and design challenges in partnership with the likes of NASA, Stratasys Education, and Stratasys Medical, as well as many other companies.

Additionally, for the past two years the National Coalition of Advanced Technology Centers (NCATC) has chosen to award the winner of the post-secondary engineering category with £780 in scholarship money towards an NCATC member school. NCATC is a network of higher education resources who promote the use of applications using the latest technology in order to enhance economic and workforce development programs alongside services.
