Stratasys Launches the F870: Large-Format FDM Built for the Factory Floor

Stratasys has announced the launch of the F870, a new large-format FDM 3D printer designed for one job above all others: producing big, strong, accurate tooling on the factory floor, day in, day out.

The F870 extends the Stratasys production-grade FDM portfolio with the longest fully heated build chamber in its class, and it arrives with serious credentials. Toyota Production Engineering in Kentucky and Rivian Automotive in Michigan are among the first manufacturers to install the system, putting it to work on factory-floor tooling, manufacturing aids and advanced prototyping ahead of full commercial availability.

As the UK platinum partner for Stratasys, we are delighted to bring the F870 to British manufacturers. Here is what you need to know.

A build chamber designed for full-scale tooling

At the heart of the F870 is a 1,000 x 610 x 610mm build envelope, giving 372,000 cubic centimetres of capacity inside a fully heated chamber that runs at 95°C. That consistent thermal environment across the full one-metre build length is what makes warp-free, dimensionally accurate large parts possible, particularly in carbon fibre-filled materials.

In practical terms, it means full-scale jigs, fixtures and prototypes printed in a single build. No splitting parts to fit the platform, no bonding sections together afterwards, and no compromises on the tools your production line depends on.

Materials made for manufacturing

The F870 launches with nine Stratasys materials, all selected for the mechanical, thermal and chemical demands of production tooling. FDM Nylon 12CF leads the line-up, blending Nylon 12 with chopped carbon fibre for the strength, stiffness and durability that demanding tooling and fixture applications require. It is joined by ASA in six colours, ABS-M30 and the new FDM ABS Draft, a cost-effective option for large prototypes.

A single soluble support material, SR-35, works across the entire range, so switching applications never means switching support systems. Material changes take under 20 minutes.

Two weeks of printing without an operator

Large parts mean long builds, and long builds are where reliability is won or lost. The F870 is built accordingly. Four onboard dryer bays use regenerative drying to keep filament in optimal condition throughout a print, while 4,100cc high-capacity spools and automatic material changeover keep the machine fed.

The result is up to two weeks of continuous, unattended printing. Start a build on Friday afternoon and come back to finished tooling.

Those 4,100cc spools are shared with the flagship F3300, so if you are running both platforms, or planning to, you get one consumable inventory across your FDM fleet.

Three print heads, one platform

The F870 introduces three new N-series print heads, letting you match the output to the application on the same machine. The N14 covers ASA, ABS-M30 and ABS Draft across three layer resolutions for precision tooling and detailed fixtures. The N20H carries a hardened drive and tip for Nylon 12CF composite work. And the N25 high-speed head prints ASA at up to 66 cubic centimetres per hour, up to twice the throughput of the standard head, without sacrificing accuracy.

Proven on real production lines

The strongest endorsement of the F870 comes from where it is already working. Toyota and Rivian have installed the system at their North American facilities, assessing it across tooling, manufacturing aids and prototyping applications.

Dallas Martin, Additive Manufacturing Engineer at Toyota North America, said the F870’s mix of build size, material performance and industrial features aligns with the manufacturing needs Toyota is looking to address as it expands additive across more applications.

"We've already seen the value Stratasys additive manufacturing can deliver. The next challenge is expanding its use across more applications. The F870's combination of build size, material performance and industrial features aligns with the kinds of manufacturing needs we're looking to address."

Rich Garrity, Chief Business Unit Officer at Stratasys, described the platform as being geared towards real manufacturing environments, pairing industrial-scale capability and increased build capacity with proven materials at a competitive price point.

Where the F870 fits

For UK manufacturers, the F870 slots neatly into the FDM range. It shares its build volume with the F770 but adds the heated 95°C chamber, integrated material drying, automatic changeover, carbon fibre capability and the new high-throughput print heads. Below the flagship F3300, it offers a lower-cost route to genuine large-format production tooling, while the shared spool platform keeps the door open to scaling up.

If your production line still waits weeks for outsourced CNC or welded tooling, the F870 is designed to bring that work in-house and cut those lead times to days.

"The F870 highlights the next step in shopfloor additive manufacturing, providing the UK industry with further developments within 3D printing for tooling, and other exciting applications, in a large-format solution. It's an exciting time and we look forward to showcasing this new machine with our customers in the near future."

Stratasys is showcasing the F870 at IMTS 2026 in Chicago this September. Closer to home, our team at the Advanced Innovation Centre in Derby is ready to talk through your applications, materials and throughput requirements, and to arrange a demonstration.
